Important School Counselor Deadlines For submitting participants in the 2026-2027 school year
* Oratorical Contest Deadline - November 30, 2026
o Submit Up to five 9-12 grade students
o The Post level Oratorical Contest will be held the first Tuesday in January
o Since 1938, the contest has helped students developed knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution
o Students who win at Post, County, Regional, and State levels can earn up to $3,000.00 cash wilegion.org/oratorical
* Wisconsin American Legion Law Enforcement Career Academy - March 12, 2027
o Open to male and female students under 18-yrs-old entering either their junior or senior year
o Space limited to 52 cadets from all of Wisconsin, applications can be found at wilegion.org/walleca

* Badger Boys State Deadline - January 15, 2027
o Submit Two Junior Boys to adjutant@ingalls-koeppen.org
o Badger Boys State will be held from June 13-19, 2027 at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire
o Badger Boys State is a once in a lifetime program for high school students entering their senior year (Juniors). Using the exercise of creating
their own state government, they will have a unique opportunity to learn firsthand the importance of building a community.

* Badger Girls State Deadline - January 15, 2027
o Submit Two Junior Girls to adjutant@ingalls-koeppen.org
o Badger Girls State will be held from June 20-25, 2027 at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh
o American Legion Auxiliary Badger Girls State (ALABGS) is a week-long government and leadership conference for young women
entering their Senior year of high school.

* County Youth Government Day - TBD
o The 2027 session will be in October at the Walworth County Government Center in Elkhorn
o Schools may send up to ten students
o Students tour the County Government Center, talk to county officials, participate in a mock Board of Supervisors meeting, and have lunch.

*Americanism and Government Scholarship Program - Testing from March 1-12, 2027
o All 10-12 grade students encouraged to test. A proctor is not required and it can be taken at home or at school.
o There is no prep test. Each question limited to 60 seconds. The essay an opinion piece based on a random question asked in the test
about government. The essay will be 300 words without a time limit. Takes approximately an hour to complete.
o Test will be live 1 March 2027 and can be found on the wilegion.org main webpage.
o 33 winners will be selected in Wisconsin
